Staunton, Va wedding venue | Stonewall Jackson hotel

I visited the Stonewall Jackson Hotel in Historic Downtown Staunton, Virginia the other week. I met with Joe McDowell who is the Catering Sales Manager at Stonewall to get some ‘inside’ information about the hotel.  I had worked with Mr. McDowell before when I participated in the bridal show hosted by Stonewall.  As we chatted over coffee {which btw was really good}, I learned about how they can host an intimate wedding for just a few or up to a 400 guest event.  I was impressed with those numbers because there just aren’t many beautiful places that can accommodate large groups.

Mr. McDowell told me a story about one wedding that was memorable.  A few years ago after 2 feet of snow fell, a couple got snowed in with their family.  It was so bad they couldn’t travel to the church for the wedding so they had their wedding at the hotel.  By the end of the weekend the guests and staff felt like family. The idea of family is important to Mr. McDowell and the hotel.  It is a small hotel with a intimate and personal feeling.  The staff is very helpful and friendly {my coffee was given to me by a lovely lady working at the desk}.

If you are looking for a historical, and versatile venue for your wedding make sure to look into Stonewall Jackson Hotel.  The Colonnade Ballroom has a grand historical feel and the Shenandoah Ballroom is distinctly modern. The surrounding downtown area of Staunton has a lot to offer in terms of things to do and see as well as photo opportunities.

A little more info: The hotel boasts 124 guest rooms, two ballrooms, and 8,500 square feet of meeting space with accommodations of up to 400.  The historic hotel makes it easy to accommodate both your guests and your wedding party all in one location. Originally built in 1924 in the Colonial Revival style, this beautiful hotel under went a complete renovation in 2005.

Mr. McDowell can help to make your wedding memorable by tailoring your experience. After our meeting I headed out and took a few photos of the hotel.

Here are a few photos from Alexis & Hock’s wedding I had the pleasure of photographing in the Colonnade Ballroom. Lighting was compliments of King Studios.  I just love those chandeliers!
